Nathan Hui-Yi (pronounced "Hway-Yee”) is an Asian-Australian rapper/producer from the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Renowned for his unconventional sampling techniques and inventive use of electronic instruments, Hui-Yi is also an introspective lyricist evoking powerful imagery through his distinct vocal sound and storytelling.

Hui-Yi navigates a unique and eclectic musical spectrum, creating everything from grimy J Dilla/Nujabes inspired beat tapes to forward-thinking, jazz-infused boom-bap rap. His self-produced beat tape “Journey To The Soul and Back Again” generated early buzz and was showcased on the “Tops” program on Australia’s Triple J Unearthed and Citymag’s “Top 10 Adelaide Releases”.

His work quickly garnered national radio airplay on stations like Triple J, Double J & SBS Chill. His remix of Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE” was the feature track and interview on Dave Ruby Howe’s Hottest 100 show on Triple J.

Expanding into the lyrical hip-hop space as a front-facing producer, Hui-Yi teamed up with Detroit MC Sam Be Yourself (from Netflix's "Rhythm + Flow" rap show) for a collaborative 9-track rap album, “DIE WITH A BUZZ”. An underground hit, their title-track single “DIE WITH A BUZZ” caught the attention of Spotify editors and achieved placement on major official Spotify hip-hop playlists like “Beats n Bars” & “The Hybrid”.

Hui-Yi has performed at festivals such as WOMADelaide and OzAsia and was also selected for the first TikTok Songhubs in Australia, as well as the NIDA x Triple J Competition.

His debut solo rap LP is slated for Q3 2024.
